The SAC 7/1

Headed to the SAC after working in the AM. Lost an hour in traffic in Harrisburg and on I-81 on the way up. Arrived just after 3P to cumie filled skies and moderate conditions. Joe Gorrie arrived a few minutes after me, then Allan Bawell got there around 3:30P. Joe and Allan assisted my elevator lau...

Re: The SAC 2/24

Took the scenic route to launch, checking out LZs in the valley behind Mahantango Mountain near the plateau where Schuylkill County Airport is located. At launch the snow was piled up at the base of the earthen mound, courtesy of the county plows. Didn't have a shovel, so the foot shovel was used (b...

The SAC 2/2

Headed to the SAC after getting off of work at 11:20A. Got to launch around 2P, finding Allan setting up his glider. Proceeded to set up my glider quickly. The conditions were moderate to strong, and the temps were just above 40 degrees. The sky was OD'ed. This was to be the maiden flight of my glid...

Here is the link to the SSC (Skyline Soaring Club) monthly newsletter from 11/2021 containing the article about the 5000 meter altitude gain of a sailplane flight in wave over the Woodstock ridge. The flight occurred on 10/17/2021. Bacil https://www.skylinesoaring.org/NEWSLETTER/2021/November/202111...

Woodstock Sunday Oct. 22nd

Got to launch just after 9A. Already soarable, w/ smooth straight in winds. Set up and waited for Alex to arrive. He got there about 10:15A. By this time the sky had opened up and conditions on launch had strengthened. I waited for some lulls to arrive, which they did soon after. Got on launch, felt...

The SAC Sunday October 15th

Got to the SAC at 9A. Already soarable, with a very unstable sky indicated by the plethora of cloud types present. Set up and waited for Romano to arrive. Alerted Joe and Karen that I should be ready to launch after 10A. Romano arrived around 9:30A. Joe and Karen arrived just after 10A. With their a...

Re: Looking for only hang gilder pilots to Fly High Rock

No. The helicopter was all over and even below launch. No way anybody should be near a helicopter. Bob Wills, who had won the U.S., Canadian and British hang-gliding championships in 1976, and was considered a legend in the sport, would in 1977 die from being accidentally blown down by a helicopter...

Elizabethville Sunday 10/8

Headed to Elizabethville, since it was too west at Woodstock and way too strong at the Pulpit. Romano Altamonte and I arrived within 10 minutes of each other at launch, noon thirtyish. Conditions were perfect. Moderate winds and overcast sky. Definitely soarable. Allan rounded out the large pilot co...

The SAC 9/14

Arrived at the SAC around 2:30P to soarable conditions and cumie filled skies. Set up and waited for Allan to arrive around 4P. Joe Gorrie arrived around 3P w/ his Falcon and set up. Allan showed up around 4:15P, and w/ his and Joe's help, I had a good launch into soarable air. Turned left and got u...
