Mountain flying this weekend and early next week

Hi all, I haven't been too active on the forums here but for those who don't know, I moved out to the DC area from NorCal 2 years ago. Been doing most flying at Highland since it's convenient but I've got the beginning of next week off so I was hoping to get some mountain flying in on Sunday-Tuesday...

Re: my hang glidding accident at High rock on March, 2013

Hi Walt, I think you've gotten some great advice and some very good suggestions from everyone here so far, so I won't contribute more in terms of the mechanics of the launch since most (everything?) that could be said has been said already. It's important to learn from mistakes, but it can also be d...

First East Coast flight

Finally had my first flight out here. Special thanks to Jesse, Felix, Knut, Matt, Karen and Walt for giving me all the site intros at Smithsburg and High Rock and being a solid wire crew. It was a short flight, but given the headwind, I didn't want to get stuck above the ridge if the wind picked up ...

Re: High Rock Saturday 3/23

Jesse, I'll be driving tomorrow from DC and can put your glider on my car. Let me know when you want to head out. I'm up for flying wherever is good.

Feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email.

Re: High Rock Saturday 3/23

I'd be in for Pulpit on Saturday. I'm an H3, but it'll be my first time there, so if any of you are willing to give me a site intro there, it would be much appreciated. Let me know.

Thanks,
Peter

Re: Sunday @ Pulpit

Looking like the rain's actually gonna come in, so I will prob just bring my glider back to DC and get it indoors before it started getting wet. Weather strikes again!

Re: Sunday @ Pulpit

Well I've gotta pick up my glider in Warrenton regardless, so I'm going to head out in that direction and maybe just hit a training hill just for launches and landings. We'll see if the wind holds as it is.

Re: Sunday @ Pulpit

Wow that would be great. I'm in DC, but my glider and harness are out there in Warrenton, so if the weather is good, hit me up and let me know. If not it's not terribly far out of the way. Looking forward to it.

Re: Sunday @ Pulpit

I'd love to get some flying in this weekend as well. I haven't flown any of the mountain sites out here yet, so I'd love to get an introduction to some of these hills. My glider is out in Warrenton right now at a friend's house, so if people are headed up to Pulpit, I'd be happy to come along. Peter...

Re: Training hills close to DC

Thanks guys. I ended up not making it out since a few things came up this weekend, but next weekend is looking good. Perhaps making it out to Taylor Farm or Smithsburg on Saturday and assuming all is well with the glider and weather permits, some higher flying on Sunday. I went through the site and ...

Training hills close to DC

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a decent training hill nearby DC? It looks like I'm finally going to have a chance to bring my glider out of storage and see how it fared on the cross-country trip, so I'd like to make sure everything is in order before any big flights.

Thanks,
Peter

Glider storage, last request

Hi all, Well I have my glider out in DC now, but unfortunately have no place to store it. The areas around my apartment that I thought would work aren't going to work out, so I'm looking for storage while my glider is sitting on my car. Contacted Highland Aerosports, but haven't heard back yet, and ...

Re: New pilot to the area

Hey all, Thanks for the storage info. I will definitely be looking for some site intros as soon as I get all situated. I have no qualms about asking for lots of feedback about my flying. And Kev, I moved to Capitol Hill over on Constitution and 6th NE. I've seen someone over here with a WW bag on th...

New pilot to the area

Hello all, My name is Peter and I recently moved to DC and joined CHGPA so I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm originally from Northern California and did all of my flight training out there. Trained at Ed Levin and flew there, Dunlap and Fort Funston before moving out here. I'm an H3 with around...
