Re: Crawford Mountain, Utah, 7/11/2024

Last time we flew there, the mosquitoes were so bad in the LZ, you had to leave your harness on to tear down your glider.

Re: The SAC Sunday October 15th

A strange game.

(Sometimes) the only winning move is not to play.

How about a nice game of chess? :)

Tom Allen reached out to me about attending this event and indicated the proposed dates were Saturday and Sunday, October 21 - 22.

Free Glider Cart & WW Basetube w/Wheels

Ward Odenwald’s wife, Arlene, has a couple items she would like to giveaway to anyone that can use them. She has a padded metal glider cart with large diameter wheels that I presume Ward built to haul his glider into the Woodstock launch. It looks well-built and doesn’t take up much space. Looks lik...

Re: Saturday at Pupit or WS (11/28/2020)

Glad it worked out for you guys at Woodstock. Musta been quite cold at ~ 7K' MSL  . The windmeter on the tower told the tale pretty accurately. There is a 3rd option to trying to decide where to go between the 2 sites, since they are pretty much the primary choices now locally on a WNW/NW da...

FS - Tickets for Roger Waters at Verizon Ctr Friday, 8/4/17

I have two tickets for the Roger Water's "Us and Them" concert at the Verizon Centre on Friday, 8/4/17 at 8 PM. They're good seats on the floor close to the stage (Section 3, Row V, Seats 9 & 10 - 22nd row near the center). I was supposed to go with one of flying buddies, Greg Beyer, a...

Re: Pulpit HG Accident June 10, 2017

Nice write up, Tev! One thing I learned the hard way was landing in tall grass/hay. Under no circumstances can you allow the basetube to touch the grass/hay as you're gliding over it. You must treat it like it was solid ground. Otherwise, the moment the basetube settles into the tops of the grass/ha...

Re: Larry Tudor on Cloudbase Mayhem Podcast

Larry Tudor is one of the legends in the HG world. I was there at Walt's Point the day in 1988 when he set the Out and Return world record flying 198 miles to Boundary Peak and back. I think I bombed-out at Independence that day after less than 20 miles. Larry was the first pilot to launch that morn...

Re: Home Owners Policy that covers PG gear if stolen

Most homeowner insurance policies exclude coverage for "Aircraft and their parts", which is a common exclusion. They also exclude coverage for other classes of property, such as "Automobiles and their parts", as well. While you might be able to schedule a paraglider and associate...

I heard they had a ceremony yesterday for Jesse Fulkersin and then Ed Messina flew and scattered his ashes. The day before, Bob Beck and Steve Kricton got about 45 minutes and there may have been sporadic sleds.

Re: WV Sites (Spruce Knob, etc) - still active?

Spruce Knob launch is on Monoghalea National Forest land and consequently, is not subject to restrictions other than the regs that are applicable to anyone recreating on NFS property. When we opened the launch approximately 25 years ago, it was considered a "scenic overlook" that we were i...

Sport 2 155 For Sale

Selling my 2004 red, white, and blue Sport 2 155 which has approximately 250 - 300 hours on it. It's rarely been whacked and has a lot of life left on the sail. I have replaced it with a new Sport 2c which I'm hoping to like as well as I like this glider. It comes with an almost new glider bag. $165...

WW Talon 150, excellent condition, $1500 0BO

Selling a Mylar Talon 150 that is in excellent condition. The glider has < 100 hrs (probably way less) and has never been crashed and rarely (if ever) whacked. Sail is still crispy and clean. Two extra downtubes included. Glider has been garage-stored and only flown a few times every year when owner...

Just to chime in on Pete Lehmann's spot-on diatribe, the Mountaineer Hang Gliding Association (USHPA #52) with only 20 member, has voted to contribute 25% of our total on-hand assets ($500) towards the cause and Pete generously matched the contribution by putting up $500 of his own money. The seriou...

Re: High Rock 40th Final Preparations

So what's the protocol for visiting pilots? I've flown HR a few times with the last one being the 30th Anniversary Fly-in, but I'm coming with a H3 pilot who has never been to HR. We'll go to the LZ first so he can have a look, but should we sign-in with Emma Jane while we're there or just go to the...
