Re: Woodstock Launch Update

Fantastic news that The Forest Service has cleared 30 trees from Woodstock. The clearing of the trees at the base of launch make the site safer for all pilots. Special thanks to Patrick who worked with the forest service for years to get this done. The site should be flyable in a few days. I'm happy...

New "Day of Flying" CHGPA Google Group

The PGs have been using the dmv_pg Yahoo listserver to coordinate flying on a particular day and location. This listserver has been very useful for coordinating flying on a given day to include coordinating carpooling and pickups after cross country flights. A new CHGPA Google Group has been created...

Work party at Daniels tomorrow

Matt and I are looking to head to Daniels to remove the punji sticks that are in the primary "blown launch" path and do some other work tomorrow. There is also chance of flying. There is a south wind and any rain will come in the evening. We need at least three others to go to make the wor...

Fun day knocking the rust off at Long Hill

Peter had a number of students training at Long Hill and another five club members showed up to knock the rust off after a winter of not flying. It was a great afternoon. Long Hill outside of Luray is a great training hill. Unfortunately the property is up for sale so we will have to try to maintain...

Re: Social this evening at Lost and Found in DC

Great job by Matt organizing the event. See the Facebook page tomorrow for pictures. 30 or so folks showed up with a number of H2s and P2s that are looking to get connected to the club. This is a fun outreach event. Try to participate in Marchnif you can.

Social this evening at Lost and Found in DC

Matt has organized a social at Lost and Found in DC to bring new members into the club and to also give current members a chance to socialize and talk about flying. The event has been posted on the club's Facebook and Meetup pages. Here is the link http://www.meetup.com/DC-Free-Flyers/events/2283657...

Re: McClave matching contribution for insurance fund

I want to thank the 27 club members who have contributed a bit over $5,000 as of the end of December. I made my matching contribution of $5,000 in late December and a club member who wishes to remain anonymous just made an additional $1,000 matching contribution. We have approximately $1,000 of cont...

The donations are being made directly to USHPA. People are notifying Krista so the donations can be matched by two club members who will also make direct donations to USHPA.

Re: Dimensions of field comfortable to land hang glider?

Hello John, Your decimal point is off. There are 4840 square yards in an acre. Highrock at 110 * 435 is 47,850 square yards or 9.886 acres. Based on using Highrock as a model we would need between a 7 acre and a 10 acre rectangle. Thanks for this input! Also, per Matt's question the other day, are t...

Dimensions of field comfortable to land hang glider?

We need to start looking at landing options for Woodstock and other locations where our current landings are at risk. Do any of the hang gliders have rules of thumb for the dimensions for a comfortable landing field? Are there any written references?

Thanks,
Jim

McClave matching contribution for insurance fund

I thought Peter Lehmann's post on the insurance issue was spot on. In addition to the $1,000 contribution I have already made I will match up to $5,000 in individual contributions from other club members. Send a note to Christa with the amount and date you made your donation. These will be verified ...

Re: Woodstock Flying and "no-land" Field.

Here is a quick report from Tuesday evening to add to John Dullahan's HG report. When we showed up on launch it was very strong with cycles coming through over 14mph on launch. We saw that the hang gliders were having difficulty penetrating. Two also appeared to land voluntarily (note to self - it w...

Re: SAVE THE DATE -- 2014 Pulpit Fly-In : Oct 3 - 5

I am planning on bringing my bike out on Saturday to get a ride in if anyone else wants to join. I am looking at Ride with GPS to see options within 10 miles of launch. I'd look to do 30 or so miles but I can be talked into a shorter or longer rid. I'd then head to the training hill to fool around w...
