Pulpit Thursday 17 November
Went whoring off with the PG pilots to Pulpit, but packed my new-to-me Falcon 4 170 in case of "the Pulpit effect". Sure enough, it was blowing 12-17 pretty damn straight in. Richard Elder, Tom Ceunen, returned biwingual pilot Alek Beynenson, Ian and Paul generously shuttled my hang-vehicl...

Re: Pulpit 11/5 - 11/6
Yesterday I had the duty at the sailplane club in Front Royal, hooking up gliders for aerotow - they found no/no lift. Paragliders abandoned Woodstock because of pronounced west cross and flew at Dickey's with success for some.
I am headed to Woodstock today Sunday with pipes and bag.

In preparation for the Pulpit fly-in 24-25 September 2016, I'm cleaning out the basement: ~6-year-old low-time still-crispy Wills Wing Falcon 3 195 short-pack with rolling case, yellow and white - $2500 (or trade for 170 or Sport 2 155) - wheels - this glider was flown at Yosemite! rear-entry hang-g...

Tell Zelda I'm good for a glider or motorglider ride when I'm back. I think I've got Sallie hooked on the Applegate Valley (Woodrat Mt) in SW Oregon. I had a nice flight on my Falcon 195 there Friday, landed at a winery, like you do there. Wind was cross at Lakeview yesterday. Will check in at King ...

Sallie and I drove Randy's and my gliders out. (We rode bikes on the Katy trail in Missouri and had a nice visit with friends in Fort Collins CO). Randy and I had made our appointments with the site monitor at YHGA for 3, 4 and 5 June months in advance. You have to be a H4. The first day was cancell...

Re: Tuesday (4/19/2016) @ WS
I measured the wind with a Halls Brothers meter from noon till 3 when I launched. When Bacil, our high wind specialist on his Sport 2 135, it was 16-20, gusts to 24; it declined steadily - by the end of the day to paragliding conditions. Izzy, the dunegoon (a term of affection) girl, helped me into ...

Yup, I have only done Short when ridge lift was solid. One way to know that is to see another glider in front of you going up. Team flying is the way to go! Get in a gaggle with an experienced leader or three. - Hugh

Re: watch out / Unfriendly Owner
Sorry you had an unpleasant time there. I think I landed a PG there a few years ago, with no landowner problems - a lady came out and gave me water. I guess the guy's right: I would not risk injury or a tree landing to avoid that place. If it's an elective landing and I can choose my LZ, sure, I'll ...

Re: Woodstock weekend 4/2 - 4/3
Oh no! Do contact police. It happened once that a pilot had his glider stolen off his car parked at home - they cut the tie downs - but he found it a block away. They must have gotten tired of carrying it, looked inside, shrugged, and walked away. Other pilots who flew were Bacil, Walt, Knut, Randy,...

Re: Highland Aerosports 2016 Season News
It is devoutly to be wished that Highland continue as is with a professional tow pilot. We have been really spoiled with this high-class dedicated full-service outfit in a friendly location. But in other places with even less density of pilots, no mountains - people still find ways to get in the air...

Ya, in my experience (now 10 years old or more), you actually want to "cut the corner" between Green Mountain and Short Mountain - don't go too deep into the corner where Waonaze Peak is. When I have been successful jumping the gap, it seemed like I was in a line of lift, which I now belie...

Those fields off to the right (on the same side of the river because of the meander) are "yuuuuuge". Landed there (on PG) yesterday. Nobody around to talk to... - Hugh

Hi Charlie, I encourage you to run for regional director and provide your expertise to the board. One of the better things the board has done in recent years is to search for why we are so small and weak as a sport in the U.S. France and Germany, for example, with far smaller populations, have sever...
