Matt
The weekend of April 19 is Easter. That could be a great time for many. I am out of town.
However, I can make April 26. I have several shovels, and can bring other tools, but no pick-up truck.
Thanks for leading the charge on this!

Re: 2014 Spring Meeting (BOD ELECTIONS) Mar 28th
USHPA SOP 12-01.02 Operations, Section A, outlines the procedures for dealing with this and is posted below : “Site Operational Rules and Standards - At flying sites where hang gliding, paragliding, and mini- wing operations are regulated under the USHPA Pilot Proficiency Program, (USHPA SOP 12-02),...

Re: 2014 Spring Meeting (BOD ELECTIONS) Mar 28th
Dan T is right about the two questions to be posed, as well as to request an absentee way to vote. USHPA does not require physical presence or a live online link at a certain time (such as Skype) for its members to be able to vote, and neither should CHGPA. We should have an electronic or even paper...

Re: Who’s Qualified to Fly Edith’s Gap?
I have noticed that often sites are rated P-2/H-2 or P-3/H-3, a kind of logic that I see running through MarkC's last post. I just wanted to point out that the differing characteristics of the PG and HG could well result in different ratings for a site, owing to how the physical characteristics of a...

Re: Lessons from a Lucky Wind Dummy - Edith's 12/28
I tried to make a similar post as this one but do not see it. If it shows up and this is a double post, I apologize. I just finished reading '50 Ways to Fly' by Bruce Goldsmith, et al. It is a collection of wisdom and experience, full of great info, and analysis for (mostly) paragliders. In it, the ...

CHGPA 2014 Membership Renewal Campaign
Happy New Year! As the year has changed, I knew it was time to renew my CHGPA membership. It was easy on PayPal: I just went to http://www.chgpa.org/ClubInfo/chgpa.dues_form.paypal.html and it only took 2 minutes. I presume the dues are still $40 (as that is what was indicated)? Anyway, I thought I ...

Re: Hanging by My Two-Strings: an Essay on Excess Nervosity
John As a totally new P-3, after being a P-2 on the slow track, I want to endorse everything you said. All of it. "Excess nervousity" is a real danger right now and the reaction of "the powers that be" to it may have grave long-term repercussions for the sport. P-2s and H-2s real...

I called Chuck over at Main Street Bakery and Catering in Luray and he told me that Bill at West Main Market 540-743-1125 is the place to go in town for a bunch of sandwiches and chips and so on. They are at www.westmainmarket.com. They have a nice menu of sandwiches, can provide chips and so on. I ...

Re: Woodstock Tues 2/12
At least for Woodstock, we have a very nice proposal that has been developed over the last nine months. It would permaenently replace all of the carpeted area with gravel, similar to the PG launch at the Pulpit. [See the earlier Woodstock porposal thread.] This is a permanent solution to smoothing o...

Matt,
I do not even HG, but your posts are superb and compelling reading. I am sure the USHPA magazine would be interested, so maybe you should follow up on Larry's idea when you get back. Meanwhile, Have a great time; I look forward to reading about it some more.

Dan,
I noticed the beautiful picture of the flight over Woodstock in the gallery section of the latest edition of the USHPA magazine. Thanks for getting one of our sites some recognition!
Happy flying!

Re: Club site improvement/maintenance/retention issues
Assuming that the owner would be willing to sell, it would likely be to the advantage of both Seller and Purchaser to subdivide the property by having a survey done and a new plat recorded. This is not very expensive and would have the benefit of allowing the Club to just be deeded a piece of land f...

Re: Update on Woodstock Launch
Dan That is very good news! I really hope we go for a widened slot at Woodstock with a nice gravel surface for PG and HG, like we have at the Pulpit. A similar gravel surface at Edith's gap would not only be functional but also help to meet USFS desires: Did you know that this invasive species is sh...

I would like to share an alternative viewpoint and advocate that the club continue its efforts with USFS to improve Woodstock and reopen Edith's gap. I do not see evidence of USFS reluctance to do both. From the club standpoint, I note that it very successfully expended significant human and financi...

Re: Improving The Woodstock Launch
What a great bunch of ideas from the group! I am very happy to see the support by all of helping to meet the needs of PGers, as well as HGers. As a new P-2 who is reluctant to fly out of a narrow slot (yet), I can attest that I have never attempted Woodstock and know that a wider slot would be safer...

Thanks for the deep level of thought that you have given this, Dan! You are fighting the good fight, which, if successful, will benefit foot launch pilots for many years to come. There are lots of good ideas here on this thread. I am sad to say that I have no real skills in Powerpoint or video, but ...

Thanks for checking in, Gary! All PG observers should know that I have a rule that they never have to pay for their own drinks - if they observe me, of course! That would be bad karma. Got to lighten the Obeserver mantle whenever possible! For us -2s, Observers make the world go 'round... Be well! J...

Hi
Does anyone know if SAC is a P-2 site and, if so, is any willing observer going to be there Friday or Saturday? I have heard of some really nice flights from SAC.

How were the conditions at the Pulpit today? Any other P-2s join you tonight?

Daniels Sunday 10/23
Beautiful day at Daniels with gentle cycles slowly building as the day went on. Matt and Noah observed me at my first East coast launch. Also, Tom, Lazlo, Syrus, Krista and others whom I did not see were there. My first ride was a 5 minute sledder, but the second got me 500 meters over launch, to a ...
