Re: Where is the club weed whacker?
I have two gas powered weed whacked the club can have. One has a brush blade add-on. Caveat. They are hard to start. I had to take them to the local small engine repair guy at the start of every season. I suspect it's the ethanol in the gas. Carburetors are ruined by this stuff unless you're religio...

Re: Carbon leading edge failure
Mike Chevalier's LE on his TRX did not break from a landing. It was damaged by a loading-on-the-truck incident. It wasn't until the glider was being set up by another pilot at Spruce Knob launch that the broken LE was discovered. The pilot lifted the wing to install the big tip fairing (or whatever ...

It was removed from the site guide long ago because there wasn't enough room in the LZ for the hang gliders with better glide ratios.

Re: Initiative to open National Parks to HG/PG
As someone who used to work with the environmental review process all the time in California (federal and state reviews) I think there is a good chance of getting a 'no significant impact' ruling. Often these are given if any possible impacts are identified and the project includes conditions that o...

Just heard about Hugh's pounding at Daniels. Jesus.
Hugh, I'm sure glad to here about the toes. And the hospital you're in is great. I believe Marc Fink gave it good ratings when he was there long ago. Heal fast!!

Cocoon harness and parachute
I have a barely used High Energy Cocoon harness and a never used parachute (it's either a Quantum 330 or the equivalent size in the Lara - can't remember which one I put in the Cocoon). I'm 5'6". Asking $600 for both. Christy, Harpers Ferry

I think it was Alan Hobner who called me a few years ago to remind me about it. I have no idea where he is these days.

170 Falcon I for sale
Rich is selling his 170 Falcon that he bought used, but in great shape. (I'm posting this for him since he is too lazy to get a login name and password.) It has a folding base tube, medium sized wheels mounted outside the downtubes (pneumatic), blue leading edge with green on back panel. He might ha...

Great news. The Conservancy does great things. I also noticed that hang gliding at Hyner is featured on the brochures for that county at the tourist information centers in PA. That couldn't hurt either.

Re: Resignation
I suspect if a pilot were to die because he used wuffos ('what's this for' morphed into wuffo), the wuffos who tried to help him would be pretty traumatized. And yes, Yanni, this did happen at the Pulpit. I find it pretty odd that it will take a dead wuffo for you to think we're serious about this. ...

Re: Resignation
Bright side of breaking aluminum and gliders is that it usually means the glider took the impact and not the pilot. At least the dealers of the parts/gliders make something out of a pilot not listening to good advice. Re High Rock. Pretty funny how pilots coming up in the ranks have to make the same...

Thanks for sticking it out so long on the board. You both did a lot to keep the energy up at the club meetings and at the flying sites. It's always a good thing to move on so others can step in and see how much work goes into it - if you're doing it right. I can understand your frustration on the sa...

Re: emergency landing in Hudson
I was wondering about that since he did such a fine job. The flight attendant who stopped the passenger from opening the rear door should also be commended (since it gave the passengers enough time to get out). The AVweb had a little report on some of the big planes that have landed in the water, in...
