Re: Woodstock wed. repeat of last week.

DOH! Gary flew also, I wasn't the only wing with bones. The ratio was still like 1:4 though.

Re: Woodstock wed. repeat of last week.

Conditions were good. The cycles on launch had a pretty wide range from 3-15 mph so I expected strong lift. Picking a launch cycle was easy and the convection was good enough to make the mountain "ridge soar-able." In the air the lift didn't have quite as much horsepower as I was hoping fo...

Couldn't get out to fly today but walked outside a half hour ago. I cried when I saw how epic the sky was.

Re: (Thu or Fri ) @ Woodstock

Bruce, it is trending towards pretty strong at HR tomorrow (Friday). That is a small cliff top so strong winds = no fun. IF I was able to sneak away, I would be now inclined to sneak to Woodstock. But I would get there early enough to milk all that convection. The forecast is light for ridge snoring...

New Pilot, Needs Wingmen

Bruce Kavanagh, A British National Team Hang Glider pilot has recently moved to the DC area. I won't be able to get out flying for at least the next few weekends. He is a phenomenal pilot and super nice guy. Could the usual suspects keep an eye out for him and help intro him to the site du jour for ...

Vehicle Recommendations

A comp pilot friend from the UK just got posted in the US and is looking for vehicle recommendations. My opinion was 2WD but I don't frequent the S sites or much past that 2 hour driving radius. Any one have useful opinions about what a good vehicle is for DC flying?

Thanks,
Kev

Re: Woodstock/Pulpit weekend

All of the above are a crap shoot. If you want a sure thing, go when it is unstable and only blowing 10. You wont get blown out, the air wont be rat shit, and you are much less likely to end up in the trees. But....if you don't like to turn in circles any of the forecasts will definitely be soarable...

Re: Flying Friday 11/9/12

Thursday looks too much for me. I'm definitely going somewhere Friday; right now it looks like WS. B/S improving, top of lift too. Bunner, I am also a high wind hater but what I just looked at shows a reduction in strength for Thursday. I am putting a glider on the car, but not sure if I will be ab...

I was going to come out but the sounding agrees with the sky. Way too windy for my style. Jon, crossing my fingers it settles down for you later.

Re: Flying Tuesday Oct. 16th

No problem Matt. My post is not as good as a "there I was..." story but hopefully the details provide some insight between the forecast and the actual conditions. Personally I follow the suncast over the windcast and the day was spot on for great soaring and possible XC but it was no where...

Re: Flying Tuesday Oct. 16th

It was good. I wish I could have gotten there earlier as it appeared to start stronger and end weaker. I didn't get off till around 3. Conditions on launch varied between 2mph up to mid teens and almost always very close to straight in. Prevailing winds were light and cross except just above the rid...
