Re: Gary's Beach?
Hey Steve,
I passed you around 5:15 on Route 2/4 last night. I was going to wave but was certain you wouldn't know who I was and didn't want to be just another strange middle aged man waving at you on the road.
How was it? The cloud streets in S. MD were pretty around noon yesterday.

Re: Flying 7/18-19
I had a great day on Sunday. It had been a while since I'd flown so Sonny recommended a check flight in the morning. He said, "Take me to 1,500 feet and bring me back down without scaring me and you'll be good to go." I figured I was home free; Sonny doesn't seem like a guy that scares eas...

It's sold. A military couple bought it to take to her next assignment in Hawaii. I think they will all be very happy there.

Re: Oregon Ridge?
I'm going to give Ridgely a shot tomorrow. But I'd still like to know if anyone's been to OR lately.
I hope to see lots of you tomorrow. It's been too long. I'll be the one with the Red White and Blue Falcon Classic and the Steam Punk Vario.

I am hoping to fly at Ridgely tomorrow after a long time off. The plan is to take an early morning refresher tandem to make sure I remember all the important parts. The weather looks like it might not cooperate. NWS is calling for north winds to dump over the trees and produce less than ideal condit...

Jeep Wrangler Equipped for HG
You've spent your entire HG life cooped up in an aquarium on wheels each time you drive all that way to the mountains or out to Ridgely. Now you can fix all that by picking up a convertible, 4 wheel drive hang gliding vehicle complete with roof rack and front T-Bar. I'm not leaving the sport, at lea...

Nelson Rocks Via Ferrata
I'm headed out to WV in a few weeks to do the Via Ferrata at Nelson Rocks ( http://www.NelsonRocks.Org ). My first mountain soaring flight was from North Mt about a million years ago (don't remember exactly but there were dinosaurs) and I haven't been back since. Any recommendations for camping? I f...

Re: Time to say farewell to hang gliding (atleast for now)
Hi Steve, I'm not sure we've met but I want to throw in my $.02 as one who is also trying to be a deeply involved dad. Have you considered trading the Discus for a Falcon and flying like a H2 until you have the time to devote yourself again? It's kind of like being a recreational crack user but if y...

It's great to hear from you Scott. I'm glad you and Holly are doing well. Over the years I have become a pilot who only flies a few times a year. I never set out to do that but my current set of priorities make it the only option short of completely giving up flying. I've tried that before and it di...

Jazz, music etc in the area
I went out to 49 West in Annapolis Thursday night to hear the Rob Levit Trio. My mom is in town so I invited her to go. I also invited my daughter's band director as we are working on a project to get the trio to play at the middle school. As has usually been the case in my life none of the women co...

Camping at HG Sites
I'd like to have a camping option for each of the mountain sites. For some it's easy, for others it's probably also easy but I don't know for sure. So rather than do this hastily some Thursday afternoon, I'd like to work it out now so when the opportunity arises, I can just go. Here's what I've got ...

For a while I've been thinking it would be a good idea to create a checklist for assembly, preflight and prelaunch. Yesterday I did it by reviewing my owner's manual to see what steps it recommended. Guess what, there were things it told me to check that I don't check. If that's the case for me and ...

I heard on the radio that tonight through Sunday is the first annual Duke Ellington Jazz Festival with music, mostly free I think, all over the city (DC). Also, there's a great trio that plays every Thursday night at 49 West in Annapolis. It's some of the best jazz I've ever heard for a $6.00 cover....

I really like some the evening magic collection. However, my very favorite is img15103. The spectators on the ramp really add something. I also like img15091 but not for any reason that makes it a candidate for the award. I like it because it perfectly captures the mood I felt after launching Christ...

I think the 'inclusion in the USHGA' is more specifically 'inclusion in the USHGA insurance'. Somewhere in the fine print of the insurance documents a few specific brands of powered HG harnesses are included. I remember reading this numerous times on the Yahoo HG list but I'm afraid to search the ar...

Re[2]: Bill's Hill Saturday
You know, that sounds like a good idea. The only problem I see is that I'm not sure I should give her an opportunity to 'reflect on our marriage' while I'm flying and not there to defend myself. ;-) It sounds nice though, maybe you should be a travel writer. :-) Dave Quoting Matthew <adventuretales@...
