Re: Leaving The East Coast

Well Larry, now that you will be in IL maybe you will be spending some time at HG Chicago. I'm "only" about 4 hours south in Louisville KY and would be able to come up for weekends to fly with you. We should talk about trying to get the mid-west comp started again. With the "killer be...

Re: How a PG is made

Thanks for the video, it was interesting.

Was that 90 manhours, or 90 hours for each of the 5 people that worked on the glider (450 man hours). I think it has to be the former, otherwise the glider would be a lot more expensive.

Re: Highland Challenge

WOW ... Sounds like you guys are creating an X-C hang glide training program. A couple of seasons of this kind of HG X-C activities and the Mid-Atlantic region could be know as "where all the best comp. pilots come from". I'm especially encouraged by the Sport class guys getting out there ...

How much do you fly at Highland? Purchase Tows in Advance.

How much do you fly and how many tows you take at Highland each season? I would like to encourage everyone to purchase tow packages for the rest of this season and next season in advance. The extra funds now may help Adam and Sunny with the expenses to rebuild the tug damaged in the recent crash. I ...

Re: Garmin Forerunner GPS

Just read through the manual for the ForeTrex 401. Looks good, the new model has retained all the features I like and added a few more. Two of which is L/D over ground and L/D required to next waypoint. It seems that a couple more useful HG or PG functions have been included. The countdown timer can...

Re: Garmin Forerunner GPS

I whole hardheadedly concur with Jim's assessment of the ForeTrex 201 as I fly with one too. The Li-ion battery is good but it does require charging after a couple of 4 hour plus flights. I use it as my backup GPS track for Comps and could be used for navigation if the GPS in the Flytec 6030 was to ...

Re: Seminars on Safety – Seminar 1: Freeze and you are dead

I wonder how closely related Freezing is with Target Fixation. Some of the examples give like flying straight towards an object in the LZ rather than turning 90degrees to avoid it, flying into the power wires you didn't see while setting up your approach, or staring at the tree line your not sure yo...

Update ... I was a little disapointed after my doctors visit to but my prognosis is good. The Fracture across the Surgical Neck is healing fine. The fracture of the Greater Tubercle (GT) is still out of position, but close enough for the Collar of Calum to form and close the fracture. I was hoping t...

Re: one more for the wrecked shoulder club

Kcarra, Thank you so much for the kind offer, but John Simon has already offered me the use of his. You mentioned that it has a limited number of treatments remaining ... do they have a service life? I thought that it would keep going provided you could replace the gel. My shoulder feels much better...

one more for the wrecked shoulder club

Only difference is I broke mine Skiing. I broke the ball right off the top of the humorous. The Greater Tubular(?) also sheared off. It's the bump on the side of the Humorous that rotator cuff muscles attach to. As of now both are non-displaced fractures, so I might avoid surgery. If the bones stitc...

Paul, Look into the Spot Messenger. It only needs an open sky to transmit her GPS location to satellite. Once the location is received by the Spot messenger service, only the driver needs cell service or internet service to receive the Lat and Long message. It usually gets the message to the cell ph...

I think John Simon should be the 2008 sport class coach. Maybe a little informal ground school for the new sport class guys on X-C flying. I think he should also be on the task committee for the sport class tasks as well.
