Blast From The Past
I think of you all frequently and was scouring my hard drive looking for ways to lower my usage and ran across this write up of a flight from the Pulpit over a decade ago. Can it really be that long? One out of every five weeks I have to be on call for work which means I must be within 50 minutes of...

Re: Accident Report 1/1/19
i just read the report. Thanks for sharing. I too have gone back to the training hill. I think John M wondered what I was doing there until he saw my first couple of launches anyway. Great exercise and excellent tips from JM.

Re: Midwest 2017
Thanks for the cudo's guys! We did indeed have an excellent week. There were no injuries (except perhaps to my ego), no significant glider damage and alot of happy faces from around the world. The weather cooperated which allowed all to enjoy the air and countryside around Wisconsin and Illinois. Kn...

Re: Woodstock Blown Launch 3/4
Hi Bacil, I am glad you are okay. It is obvious that you have internalized the what, how and why of your mishap and I am certain that you know how to prevent this in the future. I would like to hear more detail on the launch sequence, specifically about wind direction and speed, your initial launch ...

Re: Sat (12/03/2016) @ WS
My point was more geared toward eliminating distractions that impact ones ability to fly. Eliminate the need to pee for a few hours by modifying your liquid intake or fight the urge. I am certain we all have fought the urge on many occasions for longer periods than this. This was meant to be constru...

Hi all, Kris Grzyb, Greg Dinauer and I are putting on an aerotow competition in Whitewater, WI from June 4-10th. We will have a sport and open class race to goal format. It will be run similar to the East Coast Championships that Highland held for many years. The conditions in Whitewater are remarka...

Re: Sat (12/03/2016) @ WS
Awesome flights! Glad you kept it safe Mark. Wave at Woodstock does appear to occur more frequently than other sites in the area. With the technology today isn't it possible to predict wave days? Surely, experienced pilots in the valley whether they be sailplane, HG or PG have developed a method for...

Living The Dream (Still)
I've been flying for 42 years now. My 'career' has had its ups and downs over the years, driven by poor decisions on my part that resulted in damaged body parts and/or glider parts and also driven by the loss of close friends (too many most recently). Fleeting thoughts have entered my mind that perh...

Not only did he make goal, he won the day finishing the task in 3 hrs 9 minutes!! The best thing is that he went from bombing out on the previous task to first on this day; a real stud!!!

Sessa Breaks Century Mark at Big Spring
Greg Sessa flew over 100 miles today on a tough task. The first leg was 45 miles in a crossing tail wind followed by 55 miles downwind to the town of Spur east of Lubbock. Hopefully he will provide some details as it was interesting terrain that he flew over. Congratulations Greg, awesome job!!

Nice flight. the Doarama was pretty revealing. You'll want to watch that a number of times to get all of the learnings out of that flight. Again, well done.

Re: Paraglider stuck in trees near Woodstock
Based on the number of mistakes involved, Makes one question whether the pilot was ready for a mountain launch. iPhone not set, harness not on properly, flying too slow, not focused on flying the glider, not following preflight instructions.... Perhaps some introspection on the observers is in order...

I heard the challenge boys had an outstanding weekend at Jack's and 501. Someone please write it up for the rest of us! IGC files would be even better. Does Charlie have the results on a separate website somewhere?

Re: 100% HG mountain comp, Race-to-Goal in PA
The Pulpit, The Sac, Jack's Mtn and Woodstock all offer excellent XC opportunities and thus would be good sites for an RTG task. I know Charlie has been thinking of this for several years and now due to unfortunate circumstances it may happen. I like the idea of giving this a shot as many pilots on ...
