Just to put an oar in the water -- I am in favor of any proposal other than the status quo that will result in improved and safer conditions for paragliding, and hang gliding, launches.

Re: Thermal Flying by Burkhard Martens
I just got this book last week. It is OUTSTANDING. I too have enjoyed Dennis' books, which have been and still are my flying bibles when it comes to the basics -- but I also agree that the advanced stuff gets a little too deep in the technical "hows and whys" than I can easily digest. Ther...

Re: Daniels 3/7
My experience is that while in big ears my weight shifts are significantly more effective in steering the wing than when otherwise fully winged. I was reticent about trying big ears for the first time because I was worried about how one steers when your arms are otherwise occupied. But I shortly dis...

Friday, 1/23 at Daniels
5 of us arrived at the top of Daniels ~2:00 -- 3 paragliders, Tom, Dave and me, and 2 hang gliders, Nelson and ?. We all launched, went up, and stayed up. I had to work to come down after 2 hours. Similar flights for all the others -- Dave and Nelson were still up when Tom and I left ~5:00. My kind ...

Re: Paratech P-27 ML DHV 1/1-2 Paraglider
Hi Dan. Give me a call when you get into town -- cell is 703-328-8545. We'll coordinate with Ellis and get the wing into your hands to check it out. If you don't come up with another option for a harness, I've got an instructor friend in Texas that has some used equipment and he might be able to set...

Re: Paratech P-27 ML DHV 1/1-2 Paraglider
Hi Dan. Ellis has the wing right now -- took one flight with it at Daniels, but I haven't had a chance to talk to her about what she thought. I don't believe she is interested in it for herself -- but I know that Hugh is interested for himself. You might give Ellis a shout to see what she experience...

I'm a PG possibility today (Thursday) for Woodstock given my schedule and where I'll be. Will know for sure by 10:00, or earlier.

Re: Daniels Sunday?
Ellis, Jim K., Thomas and I flew Dickey Ridge on Sunday afternoon, along with 3 hang gliders. Conditions were great, especially starting mid afternoon. This was my first Dickey's launch after visiting there several times before that for one reason or another never worked out. It was worth the wait. ...

Seems I'm always wrong on these weather things, but the USAIRNET site shows that Daniel's is a possibility tomorrow. Other thoughts?

Do you have exact (or approximate times) that we would need to be there? Still trying to make it work in the family weekend schedule.

Re: Scooter-Tow-A-Paloosa
Just to clarify, does Sat PM + Sun AM mean that a participant would need to be there both days? That would make it more difficult I would think -- at least for me. Would prefer a one day affair if that is doable. If not, what are the overnight options. Is there camping, or local hotel? Never been th...

I'm interested. Friday works best for me -- I've got it on my calendar. If Saturday or Sunday involved I'd have to move some things and get some favors to make it work.

Tried to send you an e-mail, but the the address you listed came back to me as not usable. So I replied with a PM on the forum. But just to clarify, it is just the wing. I sold my old harness earlier this year.

Re: 1) mend up Laszlo! 2) jeez, some of you were almost nextdoor
Hi John! You kind of dissappeared on us - and I heard through the grapevine that you'd been assigned overseas again. I was in Created Butte in August for a fly-in there. Got to fly off the top of the Butte! Pretty neat! Richard "Critter" Kocurek knew you, as did others there. Also ran into...

CHGPA Site Guide - Next Generation
I've been anointed the new "keeper of the Site Guide" for CHGPA. I'd like to thank my predecessors, especially Christy Huddle, for developing and maintaining what is the most compreshensive and useful site guide that I've seen. It's great to be able to work with this fine product. Now that...

Paraglider Towing
I'm intrigued by SteveK's mention of paraglider towing by Jim at Highland. I know that a lot of Hang Gliders get towed, but I'm not familiar with any done around here for paragliders. As a paraglider I've got a few questions: How would I get a tow rating? Where would I go to get a tow rating? Are Hi...
