Re: Pulpit Saturday April 27th
Bacil, and club-- Just a question on Smithsburg. Stopped by for some practice on 4/22. Looked eminently flyable except that the LZ had about 6 inches of crop. Not so high for landing problems, but thought the farmer may not want landing/ tromping action with plants at that height. Can anyone tell me...

Just seeing this now. Parabens on flights in DF ! As for that other site you mentioned-- Praia do Mel-- is that on Ilha do Mel in Parana? (Gorgeous island and I loved it, but I don't recall too many high places from which to launch) Good for you for making these Brazilian events.

thermal to cloudbase, 'marked' by 416 smoke, outside Durango_July2018.JPG It’s not every day we see a thermal, unless well marked by dust, straw, plastic bags from a dump, etc -- or, how about smoke? NW of Durango CO, from direction of 416. (Photo attached?) -- Anyone doubt that this is a thermal c...

Re: Bill's Hill again, flyable again
Right you are Mark. But it was an 11th hour idea, based on what we saw as an E wind (thus hope for post-drudgery flights) and a schedule opened. The third hand was a lucky surprise. Yup, and the sticker bushes were bitchly, + saplings had grown back tall. Still could use some work, as noted.

Bill's Hill again, flyable again
Greetings: I was out-of-state a few months, am back around, and finally re-registered and able to post on the Forum. Is it possible that some of the folks who browse here do not go to the googlegroups site? Just in case, pasted below is what I posted there: another something to do on an E day. -–Joh...

On Mike Chevalier in Colorado. I have not been in touch with him, but understood he was in the Salida CO area. If he does not get Dan's PM, you could probably get a current tel# or email from hangie: Jim Zeiset: (719) 539-3900 --John

Re: Brazil in February
Good for you for planning ahead. Is Gov Valadares one of your prime flying sites? Others? If planning to tour around, don't forget that "Carnaval" will be Feb 13--17 in 2015. And it is not just in Rio, but many other towns (and esp state capitals) have a busy carnival week and 'escolas de ...

John-- Glad indeed to hear that you "walked away" and that bones will heal nicely. For me, it was fractures of C-6, C-7, T-3, and L-5. Sort of nifty to tell folks you've broken your neck and back, and claim that's why your tennis sucks, etc. (OK, I had a collapse too near terra firma of a ...

Just fyi-- I bailed out on Taylor since no company. For future, if there is anyone (mid-week wastrels, or weekend warriors?) planning some hillwork in next days or weeks, give me a call or better, email, since I am in and out of the area. -John [johnmax76(ampersand)hotmail.com]

Taylor Hill-- Tues. June 3
Anyone interested in some remedial hillwork at Taylor? I would go w/ my HG if I had company. Tomorrow is SW 6--7, only 10% chance of showers until later PM. Kudos to John Middleton who has just mowed there, I think. John 703.nine-three-eight.0735

Re: Daniels - Work party - Saturday April 26th
Yup, and my feeble reason for missing the work party is that I am in Baghdad. And not only a hemisphere away (... same ol excuses), I am grounded the next three days, thru the elections. Oh well, it was work and I took the bait. Still hoping to get back in the air this spring and summer. Thanks to a...

Re: Smithsburg during the week
Olivier-- Too much overseas and too much work of late, meaning have not had a wing out anywhere. So (esp if a hangie going, but any wingman) I would be interested in joining at Smithsburg, only that in a week I leave again, now for Iraq for a month+ But weekdays interest me. Since I am not often loo...

Gents and/or ladies-- I just managed to TOTALLY SHIRK a long time obligation (OK, it's the cousin-who-was-always-good-to-me that is NOT coming to town now) and I would like to join the work party. I could probably find the way myself, but would rather hitch a ride and throw gas $$ at you. Anyone wit...

Re: Hanging by My Two-Strings: an Essay on Excess Nervosity
Brian, etal-- Sorry if I didn’t get my point across. Not an issue about observers, who have been great counsel, noble souls, and probably lost airtime to help me out. And I listen to my betters always, whether observing me or not. In fact, one of my issues was that a couple of nervous ripostes seeme...

Hanging by My Two-Strings: an Essay on Excess Nervosity
The Incident at Daniel’s exchange has been a very useful one, with good observations coming from all directions. But one direction has been toward more worry. This is a separate thread, to talk about sites and make a plea. Although I understand and concur that we share a collective interest in avoid...

Great that there is so much enthusiasm about the USHPA Region 9 Election, and that we have four excellent candidates. I also don’t know Wayne, but it is a tough choice on the others—wow, Dan, Hugh, Patrick, and Larry! And in an election, one always learns new things about people. For example, I’ve m...

Ursus Minor, Bill's Hill yesterday
Coming back to NoVA from Colorado yesterday, at Breezewood I thought of stopping by Bill’s to see what action. Midway on the ridge to launch, a not-so-big black bear bounds across the road. Actually, it’s the third time (over a decade+) that I’ve seen a bear on the ridge. Late AM was blowing mildly ...

Taylor on Thurs/May 9 ?
First, thanks to Felix and to all for the excellent discussion of Felix's "top landing" at Bill's. Useful to remind us all re: launch and flying speed, in addition to nose angle to ridge and other wise counsel. I can use brush-up all-around-the-block but I also always felt I had a strong, ...
