Well, I'm no longer a member, but I'd happily vote for Dan if I could.
Good luck mate.

Re: Questions for the Bi-Wingual
1) I started Bi (tri/whatever... I love everything that flies)
2) Yup. HG, larger wind window, aerotowing. PG way lower logistics.
3) Of course. All flying is flying. Want to learn to thermal better? Fly a tow plane.
4) Long since closed.

The PG "launch" can be a bit tricky, but it's a fun place to fly.

Hi Joe. Yeah, she's a squirrely little demon isn't she ;) ? But then, if it was easy then it wouldn't be fun would it? I do love flying that crazy little plane. I got to fly a King Air with Rick once (thanks!!!)... he clued me into an old aviation truism... I was a bit hesitant about taking the yolk...

Oh great... NOW there's a signing bonus?! (hahahaha) Hrm. I don't have the answers here. I can shed some light on a few things from my perspective, but that's about it. I hope they find a solution. Training tug pilots is a tricky one. Yeah, it's possible. But if nothing else, it takes time. That lit...

Awe, it touches my black heart to hear such wonderful lies about me. *shucks* But yeah, sorry, I am staying in NZ though for many reasons. In addition to absolutely loving this wonderful country, the IRS hammers me if I spend more than 44 days there. International tax laws YEAY! I hope the guys find...

A useful forecast site: http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=85083&sty=m_menu It's not as pretty as US Airnet, but it tends to provide that little bit of extra info (like gust speeds and different cloud levels/coverages) US Airnet for those lacking it: http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/c...

Re: new / old site in Virginia
BASE from tandem is easier to accomplish on PG. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54DkLicvEbE Minimum altitudes depend on the jumper and how they pack. Remember, these guys jump off of towers and bridges. One of the biggest concerns for them is an off heading opening. Jumping from PG/HG eliminates thi...

Re: Weekend of 4/11 - 4/12
"Fin of shame"? Bah. I flew with a fin for 2 years. It's tempting to view fins like training wheels, however that mentality seems to get people hurt. I prefer to think of them like condoms. Until you're in a committed relationship with your glider, you go ahead and slide that thing on and ...

Re: Calvert Cliffs
I've soared a PG there. Quite a nice place to fly but yes, the takeoff is a bit challenging even with good kiting skills. The primary thing that I figured could improve the takeoff ease there would be the removal of the albatross post (not inhabited). Without the post, you wouldn't be pushed up agai...

Re: The view from the other end of the rope
I thought of something else today. (I get a lot of time to think)... Pilots often apologize for staying on tow. I've never understood this. Often it's staying on tow through lift. The only thing I can come up with is that they somehow feel like they're "tying up the tug", but I often hear ...

Some things I've learned about hang gliding
I'm no guru, but apparently I've been doing this long enough to have learned a few things that seem to help people. Living at a tow park, you're exposed to this stuff on a daily basis. Some things seem to pop up pretty regularly. Here's some of my favourites. Staying up. A huge topic for sure. There...

Re: The view from the other end of the rope
Good point Larry.
That makes sense... it's not so much about the dive (although that helps after the fact), but it's more about gliders slowing down because of the release.

Re: The view from the other end of the rope
Hey guys. I've had some good conversations with people about this stuff lately. I'm glad it's been useful thus far. Here's an interesting bit that I was a little hesitant to bring up because it's specific to me and goes a little against convention. So, I'll start this off with some warnings, disclai...

Re: The view from the other end of the rope
Ok, I've been getting some excellent feedback, so I'll try and address that now, and there's a bit more to add (hopefully I can remember it).... Here goes. So when I'm talking about "not getting creative", a lot of that boils down to staying in position. I know there are tug pilots that wa...
