Congratulations! That was one helluva flight. And it sure is nice to see a genuinely interesting flight posted here. It's been a long time.

Re: USHPA Elections Open - Please vote
As Charlie posted, yes, please vote. For most pilots the USHPA is a remote entity, something that has little to do with our daily (well, monthly) flying. Nonetheless, it is the bedrock foundation protecting our interests: site insurance and official interactions with the FAA and other public and pri...

If anyone's made it to the bottom of this thread, do take a look at Knut's two videos posted immediately above this comment. He did a really good job in putting together fun, easily understood narratives of the five comp days.
They're worth watching, and I hate hang gliding videos.

Re: Valle de Bravo February 2022
I would observe that an astonishing number of the pilots landing in The Piano seemed to have done so oblivious to the actual, obviously right-cross wind direction. Even more amazing was how many of them got away with doing so.

2022 Green Swamp Klassic Mentored Competition
I would like to bring to the Club's attention the forthcoming (April 3-9) Green Swamp Klassic event to be held at Wilotree flight park (ex Quest) in Groveland Florida. The mentored competition has been conducted for a number of years now, and has been remarkably successful in providing a low-stress ...

Last Day of the Valle de Bravo Competition
Here is my final logbook entry for the El Peñon competition at Valle de Bravo, Mexico. For those who have never flown there, it is one of the most pleasant, reliable and civilized places to fly in the world. Re: Mini 8 day R2G Comp on Eastern Shore
As there has been nothing posted about how Charlie Allen's (and very much Jim Messina's, too) Mini-Comp turned out, I will give a brief account here. The Mini-Comp was a remarkably fun event. While it was disappointing that we had fewer than the hoped-for ten participants, the fact that we were such...

Tom,
They genuinely broke the mold when JZ was cast. He was a remarkable individual in countless ways. Not everyone liked him, but I did.

Re: Suction Cup Hood HG mounts
John, While I have not owned Remora racks, I have driven a few friends' cars equipped with them, most recently a 3,100 mile trip back from Mexico. My general view of them is that they are decent short-term expedients if one does not have a proper front rack. The vehicles I have experience with all h...

Eric Kriner is looking for pilots to fly with in NC
At his request, I am posting this for Eric Kriner, a former Pennsylvania pilot who last year moved to NC. He's looking for people to come and play with him in the latter half of March Pete Rob Skinner, a good friend of mine and HG pilot from Buffalo NY, is traveling down to North Carolina on the 19t...

Re: Green Swamp Sport Klassic
I would like to second Larry's post. Last year's event was a truly fruitful learning event for pilots, but, more importantly, the flying was excellent. Even if you don't imagine yourself ever becoming a comp pilot, the high quality, task-focused flying with many pilots of near equivalent skills and ...

David,
If you have contact info for the power company, why not simply ask them if they might in fact be willing to do something? No harm in asking, and they have the manpower and toys with which to make short work of it.

This year's revived (and likely last) Zapata World Record Encampment (WRE) took place because Aussie pilot Jonny Durand persuaded his Red Bull sponsors to open theirdeep pockets to give him a shot at attaining the absolute hang gliding world distance record. As Tom and many others have been surprised by the sudden appearance of the insurance crisis and its proposed solution (self-insurance), let me provide a bit of historical context. I find it distressing to note that other than Brad’s one brief posting above, there has been no mention or discussion of USHPA’s current insurance crisis by either membership or the CHGPA’s leadership. We’ve all received the various emails from USHPA, and in them one can find the relevant informatio...

Re: USHPA Regional Directors election
As a past Region Nine Director, I would like to toss in my two cents on the current Regional Director election.
