Re: H2 Friendly "Local" Sites - Richmond VA
You might also consider Steve Wendt's truck tow operation near Richmond. It's not mountain flying but it will give you a chance to refine your landing skills and confidence. Set up you base leg along the tree line on the down wind edge of the two line and turn onto final so that you land in the gene...

Re: Weather/micrometeorology Woodstock question
If we are seeing effects at Woodstock that we don't see at our other mountain sites then the 'standard' explanations aren't telling us why Woodstock is unique. One thing that makes Woodstock unique is the evenly spaced lines of the Blue Ridge mountains immediately to the west. The next time you take...

Daniel's tends to blow a bit lighter than forecast. It could be right in the sweet spot for HG and might be workable for PG as well.
Last I saw the site it had been cleaned up pretty nicely. It should be a good day for those who venture out. Good flying to you all.

My next sport I hope, Kite Boarding
Hi everyone, happy New Year I'm planning on learning to kite board in 2017. I know at least one of you who are, or were, active in the sport. Any suggestions on where I might learn? I planned to take lessons in Virginia Beach in May but the instructor advised me that it's not the best place to learn...

Great flight stories, congratulations to all of you.
I haven't heard much from the PG community. Did any of them join you on the XC part of the day? Were the conditions gentle enough that we could have?

It looks like you are living the good life to me Walt.
Stick with the PG lessons and join us when you return and the days are too light for HG. It will double your air time.

Re: Woodstock/Pulpit on Sunday 9/11
Hang Glider Pilots, Don't rule out Woodstock just yet. You can still land at the square pond field to the right of the old LZ. Any HG should be able to reach that one in a pinch. The lawn where the Pgers land has been extended north to south so you could land there in a pinch. Once you reach ridge h...

Re: USHPA Regional Director
Our chapter would be well served by having a local pilot representing Region 9. If for no other reason we would not have been taken by surprise with the recent USHPA announcement regarding site insurance. Let's all get out and vote for Mr. Lukaszewicz.

Re: Questions for the Bi-Wingual
1) I thought flying my PG would extend my flying career and it has. 2) This is largely because it's more difficult to travel with a hang glider so I have more opportunities to fly while I am on one of my frequent road trips. 3) The awareness of the air transfers readily. A hang glider tolerates more...

Re: Pulpit Saturday 7/9
It's closer to 30 miles, right at 27 if I remember right. It's a great sport class XC with lots of landing options once you clear the two ridges behind launch. I've made it to Emma Jane's field 1/2 dozen times, all of them memorable flights. I hope your next one is as well.

Re: Pulpit & Woodstock Saturday July 2nd
The PG contingent went to Woodstock figuring that the Pulpit would be blown out for us and it sounds like it probably was. Conditions on launch were mostly very light with a north cross component in it. This put most of us on the ground pretty quickly including the big guns. I however was an excepti...

Re: Taylor's Sun05June
I love to hear the stories about trips to Taylor Hill. It's fun to hear about the H4s getting a workout and the students progressing to the ability to foot launch from the big hill. Who here can say they went to Taylor hill, had several flights and didn't have a great time even though it was a train...

Patrick,
Have you gotten any suitable pictures?
I know there are a lot of Go Pro guys who have taken some fantastic pictures. Let's not pass up a chance to introduce the public to our wonderful activity. They are the people who grant us permission to land on their property after all.

Re: Flying plans this weekend
I think conditions except for the cloud cover and damp ground look pretty good. I think fun flights could be in order but my guess is that there will be some 4 minute sleds as well. The LZ issue would be a concern if I was flying a hang glider.

The Navy is removing the Display Ship Barry from the Navy Yard this Saturday. It is being towed down the Potomac and eventually up to Philadelphia where it will eventually be scrapped. The ship is a WWII, Korea, Vietnam era Destroyer. It's will be towed past Haines Point at 9:15 AM Saturday. 9:15 is...

Re: Daniels sunday - the results
I think we had a total of 17 paraglider pilots over the course of the day on Sunday and they all flew at one time or another. The day essentially consisted of two completely different halves with pilots flying both of them. In the morning and up until 1:00-2:00 it was overcast with steady moderate w...
