Re: High Rock Friday?
if only I was still down there I'd be all over this. High Rock needs to reopen. Karen would have appreciated both the pullback and the restart.

I'll add that it's helpful if you download and fill out the waiver before arrival.

Hyner Labor Day
Just wanted to note that this weekend is looking really good for Hyner Labor day. We can fly with winds anywhere from NW to SW, which is exactly what we've got forecast. The only concern is the river may be too high and fast for swimming, thanks to Ida. We camp in the LZ and have plenty of space for...

Re: Accident Report 4/23/21
Glad you're okay Bacil! Sucks to lose a glider. I had a case at Ellenville where I started to run, didn't feel the glider lift for whatever reason (it was fine conditions, probably all me), and aborted the launch by a deliberate bellyflop that took out a downtube. Sometimes you don't know what's goi...

Hyner Labor Day
Definite sweetness in the Hyner forecast Labor day weekend! Come up and check out our new LZ/campground! All you need to know is on www.hynerclub.com. Good idea to bring a pre-signed waiver.

I'd say the Pulpit looks good today, but I didn't bring my glider. Oh well.

Talon 2 for sale
I'm passing this on from the Hyner group:
For sale T-2 144. No damage, never crashed. Always flown with wheels. I
don't remember ever even beaking it. Fine flying glider. No bad habits.
As expected some minor bag rash. $1200......Bob Beck. ......570-386-5104

Hyner Fly-in cancelled due to landowner problems
Well, if anyone was planning to go up and camp at the Hyner LZ this weekend, we've got landowner problems. You can go up there, but he wants everyone to wear a different colored wristband each day, paying $10 by day, and thinks we were actually going to run all that as a club. This is more work than...

This is great news not just for this club, but for all surrounding clubs. Thanks for all the work and mentorship you've put in to keep the sport alive, John! You are a treasure and we look forward to Anthony carrying on the tradition.

Re: Hyner View Memorial Day Open House!
With Memorial day just a few weeks away I thought I'd bump this thread. Come up, hang out, fill your cooler and hit the road!
If you've never experienced Hyner it's an experience. Remember the focus is on being there, the flying is icing on the cake.

Hyner View Memorial Day Open House!
Hey Folks! Brian here, former CHGPA member and current Hyner President. I tried posting in the events board, but that seems to need a review, and I'm too anxious to wait. The Hyner Club is holding a Hyner View Open House on Memorial Day weekend! We especially want to attract new PGers up to the area...

Re: Hyner 4th of July
Yep, Friday does look good. My experience is the best flying at Hyner is right before I show up.
Hyner's a good place for PG, hope folks will come up. there will be people there clear through July 7. I'll be there Saturday through Thursday.

Hyner 4th of July
A heat wave is coming, and Hyner is the cure! That's about all I can forecast this far ahead - temperatures will be 5-10 degrees cooler up in the mountains. I held off on advertising Hyner last year because our landowner had created an unwanted pond, but the freeze-thaw cycle broke that up and thing...

Re: Learning from a HG accident
a decade and a half ago Rich Donohue proposed the idea to me that everyone should fly with one of those plastic name tags, with all emergency information on the back. The edges could be sealed with tape to weather proof them. I always felt bad for not promoting it, it was a great idea. Brian (curren...

Re: Woodstock Saturday Nov. 26th
A huge congratulations to the community for landscaping the Woodstock launch. That is no minor feat and you can justly feel proud. Had a nice though somewhat short flight. First 5 minutes spent getting up to Bacil's safety zone of 1000 above launch, another 5 minutes or so boating around, then once ...

Re: Woodstock Saturday Nov. 26th
No doubt Bacil will be up top around 9 am wondering where the hell everyone is, but since I'm not Bacil I'll eat a big breakfast and be up there a bit before noon. Would be nice to shuttle some vehicles down before flying.chuckok wrote: What time are people planning to meet at the LZ?

Re: Woodstock Saturday Nov. 26th
Funny. In the good ole days the field with the square pond was explicitly off-limits.
The 1000 foot rule of thumb is perhaps even more useful to keep in mind at the end of a soaring flight, when it's typical to wait until sinking to launch level before heading out.

Re: Woodstock Saturday Nov. 26th
OK, I will assess before setting up, and wait to confirm easy soaring before attempting launch on my bagged-out falcon. It's too bad that one of the best sites in the east is no longer forgiving.

Yes, indeed it does look good! And not too hot. East branch of the river is running high, not sure about the west branch but hopeful it will be swimmable.

Re: Weather Calculations - My Process
Krista - I like your approach of starting with upper level winds first, as this is what most people neglect and can get them in trouble. Skew-Ts are confusing because they a skewed in part to get the whole plot on one page: there are other reasons that can be dispensed with. Stuve plots do not have ...

So sad. I'm sorry I hadn't really been around the last 8 years - I can't imagine the old stomping grounds without Highland.
