Webshots slow?

Think you've got problems, Scott?? My firewall at work has recently begun to treat Webshots as "Adult Entertainment" and blocks all access to it!? Dang!

Nice Day in Texas - Boat Launch

I had?the lake-tow operations all?to myself (and Gregg Ludwig -- equipment owner/operator) Saturday on Lake Conroe?-- and what a day it was!? Lot's of bouyant air with bits of lift sufficient to energize my vario and extend each of my four flights.? Wind coming in lightly from the north made for a c...

Words of Wisdom

Okay folks.? My two "passions" (hang gliding and motorcycling) are taking their toll.? To paraphrase Lauren "enough is enough!".? Let's keep in mind those now-imortal (and prohetic) words of John Middleton, "Ed, you're going to let your enthusiasm for this sport kill you!&qu...

Flight Report from Lk. Conroe Texas

Had 2 great tows and subsequent flights in moderately bouyant air last Sunday over Lake Conroe.? First tow to 2250 ft and second one to a bit over 2300 ft.? Second flight was particularly enjoyable in that I shared a thermal with a mature Bald Eagle for about 15 minutes almost directly over my home ...

The Future of Our Sport

Gotta admit, although I'd long wanted to learn to fly, it was the "Virginia is For Lovers" advertisement for the state that featured a hang glider in flight among other Virginia "assests" that got me to actually take the next step in finding Silver Wings.

ARRGHH! Pics from Boat Towing in Texas 1 - Retry!

Good questions, Shawn, Landing takes one of two forms.? With pontoons mounted (similar to a float plane but smaller) you can land fast, upwind or downwind and prone.?? You just skid in as you might?with wheels on land.??On the other hand, if you're using floats as you see being mounted on my glider ...

It's only Scott's and John's encouragement that forces me to continue to expose myself (and you) to my ignorance on how to get these pics so you can actually see them.? I hope they're worth your patience! If Scott is right, you should be able to use this link to get to the Webshots site .... here go...

Pics from Texas Boat Tow

Here are a few photos from my last Boat Tow outing -- for those of you who may be curious about the set-up. #1 = Set-up area (my back yard) and LZ (marina) #2 = Installing floats on control bar. 5000' of Spectra line on winch (under blue cover) #3 = Yep, that's a life jacket under the harness. And a...

Boat Tows on Lake Conroe, TX

An awesome day for boat tows. And I just can't express the "coolness" factor in being able to set up in my back yard and have Gregg come by, mount my Falcon on his boat, make a couple of traditional tows (1,350' and 1570', respectively) with extendo's -- landing north of an island in 3-1/2...

Boat Towing In Texas!

Ohmigosh! Getting back in the air is AWESOME after such a long layoff and doing it via boat tow is indeed "unique". Imagine heat index numbers in the 100's -- then imagine landing (intentionally) in the lake. That's the way it went on two more flights this weekend. First tow to about 1410'...

Boat Towing in Texas!!

Wa-hoo!!! Finally got back in the air -- in the most unlikely way. Got a tow from a boat on Lake Conroe, Tx (my back yard). Gregg Ludwig has a very impressive tow system with LOTS of line. With the entire lake as a "runway" it's more like aerotowing than truck towing. Connect a couple of p...

Just a couple of comments from the voyeur in the group. (1) My 1963 Austin Healey was manufactured before seat belts were required -- therefore, I'm grandfathered and don't (legally) have to install them ...... UNLESS I want to compete in one of the Austin Healey Club of America's (AHCA) competition...
