WTF?

I heard from Janet Gregor that Steve Kinsley said that I had died in a towing accident. I AM VERY MUCH ALIVE. Although I'm not flying anymore I do lurk on the forum occasionally. After Ann's death in 2018 it just wasn't fun anymore. I flew through 2020 and no more but still haven't sold my gear. I f...

Rich Heigel told me about Jerry but didn't mention the cancer. I remember going to Jerry's Christmas parties at that house on Prospect St.

Bob Lowe

Some of you old timers may remember Bob Lowe. Bob died 2 nights ago at home in his sleep. He had been suffering from congestive heart failure for several years. He was 65. Bob started hang gliding in the 70s and moved to Colorado in the 90s. He stopped flying a while back after a flying accident at ...

Dave
Not anytime soon. Whenever I've been back there it made me remember why I left. Heat, humidity, bugs, traffic, too many people etc. And Highland is gone! I could never live in the east again.

Re: High Rock???

Wow. That's a hell of a concussion. Sounds like your vision was good enough to see the eclipse though. I saw the totality in Clemson, SC. Just amazing to see a "black hole sun". I don't know much about concussions other than what I hear about the NFL. Are you expected to make a full recov...

Re: High Rock???

Damn! Sorry about your accident! Glad no broken bones. Is there any paragliding in Salida, CO? I found this same article a few years ago. I emailed the website to update the article, but I guess it didn't happen. Looks like I can sign up for an account and edit the article myself. I'll try to do th...

High Rock???

I don't live in Maryland anymore but sometimes lurk. I was wondering what has happened to High Rock as I ran across this article that describes High Rock as abandoned. http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/abandoned-hang-gliding-launch-pad I'm still flying often but am the only one left in Salida that ...

Re: Highland Aerosports Closing

What a shock! I moved to Colorado in '03 but before that most of my flying was towing at Highland. I've got many memorable XC flights from there and have been wishing I could beam myself back there on the weekends to fly. And there was also the fun house, what happened there stayed there.

Re: OT: Kinsley Wants to Date Me?

I also got one of those weird emails from zoosk about Steve. I never signed up for zoosk. But I was wondering, is Steve taking a walk on the wild side? Steve, if you're reading this: 1. I'm too far away, even though you probably have many points for free flights. 2. I have a girlfriend. 3. You have ...

I just read that article in Colorado Central magazine. I know the author and editor of that magazine, he lives couple blocks up the street. It's a small town. I can see the back end of my truck in the picture on the cover.

I got the 6030 to talk to GpsDump. The 6030 needed to be on the Main Setup Menu for data transfer. Duh! Now if I can get the program to work with the Garmin.

GpsDump on mac

I recently bought a new Fytec 6030 and have been unable to get it to talk to GpsDump for Mac. I've tried version .27 and .26 and different versions of the driver for the usb to serial converter which is in the Flytec. I keep getting a message that says "GPS Access Error-Product Read Timeout&quo...

Re: Dave Green

I saw Dave last spring when I was back there. He had finally gotten rid of that crew cut and grown his hair out. A few years ago I was back there and went to visit him. He was on house arrest, part of his govt. sponsored sabbatical, and had a house arrest ankle bracelet. Now Dave, being an electroni...

Re: Fly Week Day 1 Gardy Dog shows up the locals

Ben and LE Herrick were also there and flew in the first wave.
The day was marred by a blown launch around noon. The pilot was stretchered out but found to have no serious injuries and was at the party later. The glider was badly damaged with the keel broken in 2 places.

Fly Week Day 1 Gardy Dog shows up the locals

Day one of Fly Week Colorado. Many PGs and HGs flew early and sank out. For a short window ( I missed it) some gliders got up. Mark Gardner beamed up to 17,999 and headed north, landing about 25 miles north in the Arkansas valley north of Salida. That's higher and farther than I or the other locals ...

Re: Colorado Fy Week 2012

There's been a smaller fly in every year but nothing quite like this one. Usually there's been live music one night. And maybe 40 pilots. 90 had registered last I heard. They used to have it on Memorial Day weekend but it can still be cold then. And it's still not too late to come! With 2 drivers (a...

August

I'm coming in August. I'll be there from August 14 - 16 near High Rock but won't be able to fly that weekend. I'm bring my harness and Monday I was thinking of going to Ridgley. I fly a U2 145 so need something about that size. Also I'll be driving a small car with no racks (Honda CRX) so won't be a...

I'm up for visitors. Very few visitors so far. The best time to fly here would actually be in September, things can be a bit rough during the summer. Villa Grove launch is about 45 minutes away and most pilots say is the best site in the state. Launch is at 9600, LZ is big and at 8000ft. Gotta have ...

Get MacGPS. I used it for years with OS 9, it was easy. You'll have to make or buy a cable, not difficult or expensive. Haven't tried it on OS X yet.
