Hyner for Memorial weekend 2017
Marney and I are driving up tomorrow afternoon/evening. Friday looks possible for flying but may be windy. Saturday looks real nice with light W-NW winds and Sunday may be rainy so we will probably drive back then. Primarily going because of Saturday.

The weather isn't looking great for Saturday. Looks like there will be a small launch window with northerly winds between 11:00 A.M and 1:00 P.M. then it shifts East.

Hyner makes it's own weather; one of the most weather-dynamic locations on the east coast.

Hyner did make its own weather today and turned out to be wonderful! I had a nice 17-minute PG soaring flight a little bit after 1 p.m.. also a real nice 39 min hang gliding flight around 4:30 pm up to Cloud base sharing the sky with about a dozen hg's until the wind shifted out of the South and everyone came down. One of my nicer flying days here for several years.

I was not going to go, but decided at the last minute and left my house in the rain. The WX improved as we made our way north to Hyner. What a great surprize! Very nice conditions that improved as the day progressed. H2 friendly conditions earlier in in day.
Flyable all day and many of us soared later in the day. I do not think I have ever seen so many gliders in the air at one time at Hyner. Yvonne said it looked like a butterfly migration from her perspective in the LZ. Had to wait to launch because of traffic. Launched into a good cycle and clawed my way up. Only a forty minute flight, but mostly at 4,500+ msl. When the wind shifted south the lift shut down and we all scattered. One heck of a flight. Thanks to Jim C. for the launch advice. You will have to see the video to understand.
Some debriefing (and fire jumping), spoons and tall tales of flying conquests made it a complete Hyner experience.
