Wind direction and speed looks good. But it's gonna be HOT as a tar bucket! How do you spell relief? ALTITUDE . Should be ridge soarable and the temperature/dewpoint spread should be 30+. Top of lift could theoretically be 8K' MSL at the peak heat time of 4:30P. Bacil

aw yeah! I'm looking for another attempt at a long XC. If the wind looks West enough, I'll give the Pulpit another try. And no drinking the night before! I was a bit hung over last time.

High temps + high humidity result in low-density air that compromises a lot of what we do, especially during takeoffs and landings. Current weekend predictions suggest significant heat, high humidity and light winds. If you fly, double/triple your efforts on takeoff and maintain good airspeed when entering the LZ. Fly-off the Pulpit north ramp - its higher, longer and wider than the south platform and with light low-density winds, those white rocks below the pad are closer, bigger and a little sharper so don’t even think about it! Thermals are the wildcard in this hot mix that could significantly alter the equation in either direction and given their dynamic uncertainly, I’m on the sidelines – at least until one of us hooks a big one.

Pulpit is still looking good for Saturday. As the heat goes up the humidity goes down and I don't think it is going to be too strong. I am going and hope to see others there.

Staying home today, marginal ridge-lift conditions predicted during the early to mid afternoon (Nostepper and Windyty NAM forecasts) plus the heat are the reasons.

First I would like to comment how much cooler it was there at launch. With the breeze blowing in and occasional cloud shade it was quite pleasant. We all used the right ramp. Charley F was first off maybe around 1:30 and even though there was some wind he found nothing and landed in the secondary. After he was retrieved, Tim Bowen was next maybe an hour later and was getting some boyant lift and extended his flight near the primary for a little while. Bacil had a wine commitment with his wife so he broke down but said it would be decent by 4 pm.

On the radar there were some storms in the distance and some virga to the south so we waited for a while. It seemed to be getting more clear so I launched around 3:50 and it was quite pleasant averaging 500-1k above. I chose to land after 1.5 hour flight. Mark Gardner launched maybe around 5PM also having a nice flight and chose to land so we could go back up and help Anthony launch. Anthony got airborne at 7:05 into magic smooth lift and landed 40 minutes later.

Sure glad that I went.

After Bacil left, Jane White (Judy's best friend) came to spread some of Judy's ashes. Meanwhile, John and Mark Garner were flying and staying high south of launch. Jane White, Tim, Matt (H2 from Hyner Area) and I all stood on the new ramp as Jane White shared a the story about Judy leading the charge in an all ladies comp.

John landed and then Mark Garner. Mark waited to break his glider down so he could help me launch. At 6PM winds were gusting to 20mph on the new ramp and by 6:30 they were gusting to 18mph so I decided to launch. John and Mark helped me launch. The air was buoyant and smooth. After it started to turn off I headed out to land and got in a very long ground effect. John and Mark were very considerate for helping me fly.

Really sorry to have missed Jane... Bummer, was on the road for a family rendezvous thing, wish I had known. But OTOH, Judy wouldn't have wanted people to make a fuss, always practical, can almost hear her now: "Oh, just go fly and have fun!"
