WS tomorrow and or Sun
Can't make it to Hyner this weekend. Woodstock looks good for tomorrow eve and all day Sun. Any interest?

Decided to stay home and not travel to Hyner View this weekend. At last, it did look to strong and scary for Friday and Saturday.
However, I am interested in flying at Woodstock on Sunday and forecast looks okay now.

Launched into maybe 5-8 mph, like everyone else. Very active air; lots of fighting the wing. Lots of going up while others very nearby were sinking (and vice versa). No ridge lift, all thermals. I broke 3k over launch a couple of times without really trying, followed by lots of sink. I landed (well ) after 1.5 hrs because I was tired. Conditions were mellowing out in the last 20 minutes.
Went back to launch and lots of PGers (Dan T. and Laszlo and others) were looking at launch. Don't know how they did.

Yep, fun day. Had to work for the first half hour and then started getting higher. I flew with 2 bald eagles at different times - both almost mature with mostly white heads and tails but still mottled. Was bouncing off a 5,000' blue ceiling for a long time and then eventually punched up to 6,200 msl. Of course I had taken my bar mitts off earlier today, could've used them for sure. Went out to Rt 11 to get lower and warm up and by then I had my 2 hours so I gave the tower a buzz for good measure and went to land. Came in with lots of speed and hit a little bit of turbulence but it still ended up real nice. Flytec showed 850 fpm on the 20 sec avg and 1150 fpm on the 2 sec avg. Definitely active air, I'm sore already. Good to see everyone out there.

What more can I say... . What a great day, "Me and my Sport2".
Like Dan, I also "bouncing off at 5,000". Also, tried to follow Dan to Rt 11, but he smoked me w/ his wing and I had to turn back long before.
Stayed up for ~2hrs and was warm and good, having my bar mitts on today.
Thanks for the help at the launch and for the ride back up.

Dan, thanks for the write up and amazing photography (as usual). Are you sure you don't have some type of secret antigravity mechanism on your U2?

Excellent day shared by many! Had maneuver around the slot to find a place to set up.....thats a good thing!!!!
Lots of thermals all over and birds everywhere. Flew with a bald eagle for a short bit and there was lots of other vultures and hawks around. Launched at about 230pm. Couldn't seem to find my way past the 5000'msl ceiling (nice job Dan...I saw you up there , just could find a way to join you!). Saw a little over 800fpm on my 10s averager.
Honestly though the coolest part of the day for me happened on the ground before the flight. Bacil and I were talking outside our cars in the little pull off to the side of the bridge field, when all of a sudden a thermal lifted off about 50 yards away and picked up all the clumps of freshly cut grass and swirled them around tightly, showing the shape of the thermal perfectly. It was probably about 100 feet high!!! Whole thing lasted for about a minute before the thermal, moved and started spewing all the grass our way. Very cool!!!! Bacil got a decent picture of it with his phone , just a little bit into the activity and after it loosened up just a bit. I tried unsuccessfully to video it on my phone. Neat stuff!!!

It was great to see so many hang gliders out at Woodstock! I enjoyed a 2 hour flight and topped out at just over 3,400 ft above launch. As Dan mentioned, it was also very cool to fly with the bald eagles. All in all a great day to fly!
