Two new pilots to the area

Post by TeamRuiner »

Hey!
This is Team Ruiner Towing, and Eternal Flight Paragliding School. We will be in the Churchville Maryland area working at Skydive Baltimore for the summer. We would love to meet the local pilots, and do some flying. We are Ian and Shelly, and we come from Fl. We got our P-2's in '09, and have been doing a lot of towing, as well as traveling to fly since. I (Ian) recently finished my Basic Instructor Rating, and I am a Tow Administrator. I have been working as a Parachute Rigger for 10 years, and this year i hope to persue paragliding full time. We left our pay out rig in Fl, but we are about to have a beast pay in rig here in Churchville (maybe 2 weeks until its delivered). Shelly is almost ready to complete her P-3. We are both very excited to be here, and even more so to get some mountain flying in this summer!
Look forward to meeting everyone soon!
Please let me know how we can get together and fly!
We will be working most weekends, so any pilots available during the week please respond.
Thanks-
Ian and Shelly

I am in the process of getting airport approval, and the winch is currently being constructed in UT by my buddy. It should be coming online in about 2 weeks. I believe we are in unrestricted airspace, but there are a few routes that descend nearby. It looks all clear to the north as far as XC goes. The field here is probably a mile or so, so I estimate with a pay in tow we could get anywhere from 800-1000 AGL depending on conditions and pilots skill in towing. I am actually looking a the airspace now... I'll get back to you as soon as I get everything figured out. Also, if anyone has fields to fly they know of, I am not opposed to driving out and flying there...
I will keep everyone informed, as I can hardly wait to fly myself!
Also, can anyone tell me more about the local sites? Anyone going out this week?
Thanks for your interest
Ian

Join the CHPGA and you'll get access to our site guide with all the info. Membership pays for insurance and maintenance for our sites.

A few people are hoping to fly somewhere on Friday. Looks like another Bills Hill forecast.

Welcome to the area. I've flown gliders out of Harford County (aka Churchville or Aldino)

http://www.airnav.com/airport/0W3

Class D is just to the SE but practically it's clear to the North and West.

Can be a busy little airport with GA, UL, and gliders; are they going to let you drag a line across the operations?

BTW, I think the sky dive op at 0W3 was the group that used to operate out of Ridgley.

Good luck,

I am thinking weekday ops only. I am working at the dropzone :) it has been really slow traffic wise during the week. There are a few PPG guys there, and one said he knows the manager of the airport well. Ya, the airspace is all good, just need to find a way to coordinate with the other pilots... If anyone has any idea of alternate fields, I am more than willing to drive.
