Re: Pulpit HG Accident June 10, 2017
Tev, We appreciate you writing this up and glad you are on the mend. When your mind says it doesn't feel right, listen to it! I was one of the pilots that broke down my glider at launch. I have always told myself that if it doesn't feel right, don't do it. There is no shame to walk away from launch....

Re: Pulpit 6/24 - 6/25
Going on Dan's comment, if a bunch of pilots expect to go XC, they should bring a driver with them so that other pilots don't have to sacrifice the "best" part of the day.

Re: Learning from a HG accident
Steve, I am not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but if it was let me add a few more details from my perspective. I was up at launch and the pilot had a hard landing. 911 was called by another pilot in the secondary LZ. When EMS arrived, they determined that a life flight should be called. The pilot...

Re: Pulpit 6/24 - 6/25
I communicated with Bacil yesterday about the primary LZ. He asked Rich Bloomfield to check the primary and the grass areas are still 3-4 foot high and the corn is 18" high. You may have to consider an alternative LZ. Keep in mind, the secondary LZ was reported as a no-go due to crops. It is to...

Re: Learning from HG accidents
Walt, Just as an FYI, while you and Anthony were brainstorming what to do with the pilot's glider and vehicle, we (Bacil, Charlie, Rich Bloomfield and myself) already had a plan in place. We spoke with Rich and he was going to stow the vehicle and glider at his house in McConnellsburg . When you spo...

Re: just flew Makapu'u~! (video inside)
The rotor off Rabbit Island is affectionately known as "rabbit shit." I was fortunate enough to fly the HG launch at Makapu'u in August 2015. My company dreadfully sent me there for work for 6 weeks, on 4 islands.

Ramp Streamers on Pulpit Ramps
I made some semi-permanent wind streamers for the ramps at the Pulpit. I had some fiberglass driveway marker at home, so I cut them in half (about 2 foot). I drilled a hole in the front corner of each ramp and they fit snugly in the holes. I also attached a lanyard in case the get popped out. I laye...

Re: Pulpit Sunday 10/30
As John reported, I had an extendo to the primary LZ. I volunteered to be the wind dummy. I haven't flown since the end of July when I crunched my down tube and damaged my keel. My main goal was a good launch, set myself up to bail to the secondary LZ or head down the ridge to make the primary. I ro...

Re: Pulpit Sunday 10/23
John, looking at a Baltimore-Washington VFR TAC, the "populated' portion of Fort Ritchie and the Quirauk Mountain communications tower are outside of P-40. P-40 appears to be 4-mile radius of Camp David, so Ft. Richie is outside of the restricted area. So, if you launched from HR, stayed north ...

Are the "no tresspassing" signs down too in the Bridge field? I think a previous post stated the farmer posted the signs after the last incident there.

Looking at winds aloft, they are really blowing. If the SAC was like Makapuu, I wouldn't hesitate, but I am bailing too. Back to bed with the puppies.

My ETA is 8-8:30. Car is loaded. I plan on leaving about 6AM. I have both waivers in hand. I haven't been to the SAC since the early 80's.
