Re: Pulpit Saturday July 8th

When does the build up normally start?
When does it normally reach the too-strong-to-launch level?
What about conditions in the air & at the LZ when it's too strong to launch?

Re: Pulpit HG Accident June 10, 2017

When you say you have "medical insurance", do you mean you have specific additional coverage for flying HG/PG, including medevac? Or is it just regular coverage for "normal-people"?

Anyone know anything about HG aerotowing at Buffalo Ridge Airsports in VA?

Howdy folks As well as getting more airtime in one week than all of last year, I came back from the Green Swamp Sport Klassic at Quest with a new (to me) U2-145. I still have my Sport2-155 (the blue/red one with the Texas flag on the undersurface - the U2 is mainly white, with thin orange and yellow...

Re: Midwest Championships 2017

I've just registered for sport class and sent my payment.

Greg/Knut - looking for a tried-and-tested retrieve driver?!

Super excited about this.

Am also thinking seriously about doing the Green Swamp sport event in March - anyone else?

Re: Highland Challenge (mountain version)

I didn't fly on Sunday at 501 - me and my Sport2 didn't feel comfortable with the glide required to make the bailout LZ during mid-day conditions, when there could be sink around. But we had a nice day out with friends in the country. And following John Simon was fun - that Combat goes like stink; i...

Thanks go to: Charlie for organising and hosting John Dullahan for driving with us on Sunday Dennis Pagen for Jack's site brief and advice on Saturday We Sportsters weren't as successful as the Openers, but we had fun. I managed a huge 7.5km on the first leg of our 18km each-way out-and-return task ...

Re: Batten Bending (Patent Pending?)

Thigh has worked for me too. Also, you can make the batten a little bit more compliant if you heat it up by rubbing your hand up and down around the area that you need to straighten. Just wrapping your hand around lightly around the batten and then rapid movement up and down is enough to get suffici...

Have you contributed to the RRG start-up fund yet? (aka "What's flying worth to you?")

I love flying. I want to continue flying. So I've donated to the RRG start-up fund, $500 so far. Please think about what flying's worth to you, what you can afford and then contribute accordingly - https://www.ushpa.aero/donation_form-RRG.asp . Other people are donating, some extremely generously, i...

Re: SAFETY NOTICE: All Wills Wing Flyers

Have just tested all my tips today (Sport2 155, 2006 model, I think), using 6.5 kg option. Was very easy, took 15 mins, maybe, once I had my test weight ready (solar shower, 0.42kg plus 6.08 kg water).. (Took longer to prep the test weight than test the tips as my largest meauring jug is only 1 litr...

Angelyn spoke with Sami briefly this morning. Sami's been at Ridgely since Saturday. Her mom and some other folks from NY came down but have left now. Sami's been spending her time with Sunny, Adam, and Kristin. She's heading back to NY tomorrow. In Sami's words, she's still "just numb". R...

Re: Highland Sun the 26th

Certainly was good, but cold - thank goodness for my thick flight suit and bar mitts! Based on wind reports, set myself a small triangle to try - Ridgely, Goldsboro, Roe, Ridgely - as i wanted to get up and going before everyone else was ready. Got a good climb reasonably soon off tow, didn't drop b...

Re: Sacramento Sunday Sept. 7th

Thanks. Looks like there are several long ridges out there - looks like it should be pretty good with the right wind. But they're all a pretty long way from SoMD - about 4 hours by the look of it. So unless the forecast is really solid, a bit of a stretch for me on a regular weekend, especially as R...

PG Lonestar Championship 2012

Just got back from Dave Prentice's tow comp in Texas - last year was such great flying (you may remember that i went 134km on my DHV 1/2, in one flight from a weak link break at 600ft!), so i figured it was worth another go. Flying this year was reasonably good, not any where close to as good as las...
