Looks like the forecasts are holding. Thanks for the heads-up Mark. Mid-day should be ideal for takeoff and landing practice.

Re: Woodstock Dec 26th, 2021 (what a day!)
Happy that you guys soared! From your flight track Bari, looks as if bar mitts and perhaps a life vest and/or tree climbing gear may have also helped as the track ends with you low and headed for the river. How’d your landing go? Allen, many thanks for the Ravens Haven info! Is the launch/setup area...

Re: Woodstock, Monday Nov 29th
Windy and cold! 25 to 30 mph gusts at launch kept the wings in the bags until after 2pm so Gary and I decided to not to unzip ours and help the kids (Mark and Bari) fly. Both flew for at least 40 min.

Tomorrow's predictions still look good for the afternoon. Unless they change, I should be at launch by 10:30.

Woodstock, Monday Nov 29th
Forecast models look good with soarable conditions predicted along the entire length of the Massanutten with daytime temps at 2,000ft in the low to mid 30s. Who’s interested?

Re: Woodstock, Friday Nov 19
Remarkable day! Never got as high as Tom but lift was to be had just about everywhere. Above 4,000ft MSL, the air temp was the issue. My arms and hands were ok but the burning sensation in my lungs was what brought me down after 2hrs. Attached are two photos looking north over rt81. https://ayvri.co...

Re: flight compilation
Thanks Walt! It was/is a challenging year. Hoping that the rest of it brings soarable conditions to make up for what we’ve missed this summer and fall.

Re: Fri30July : WStock also a possibility?
Yes, it was very good! Here are some photos to go along with Mark’s writeup. Two sets of 5 with the first 5 highlighting the Edinburg gap and the last set showing a climb at the north end of the ridge up to 7,100MSL. The Signal Knob thermal must have been huge. The flight track shows that when I fir...

I agree Mark! It looks good up and down the entire Massanutten ridge complex. My launch ETA is 11am.

Re: Eastern shore XC 7-24-21 (driver needed)
Charles, If making Jim look like a “bad guy” to highlight the pilot segregation of the haves from the have-nots then so be it. As he said, he’s got thick skin. In no way have I implied that you convert your club (or whatever you want to call the group of six) to a commercial operation. There are so ...

Re: Eastern shore XC 7-24-21 (driver needed)
HaHa! I’ve struck a nerve. When Jim mentioned he was thick-skinned I thought for a second that there would be no more discussion but now we continue. You’re correct in that I had the opportunity to participate in your event and chose not to. I missed my once-a-year chance to fly above the Delmarva. ...

Re: Eastern shore XC 7-24-21 (driver needed)
“A couple of us are looking for a driver”, hmmm, let’s break this down. “A couple of us” -> local HG pilot translation -> the privileged few with tug access. “are looking for a driver”-> local HG pilot translation -> we're looking for an airtime starved pilot desperate enough to just be near the pri...

East Coast Fly’n in West Coast Air Better than expected. Three hang glider pilots flew: Giovanni (a new CHGPA member originally from Guatemala); Alex (an H2 from Blue Sky, currently under Bacil’s wing ); and yours truly. In addition to the low visibility, the odor of burning forests was every...

Woodstock tomorrow/Wednesday July 21
Summer casts are often fickled but this evening's predictions suggest that It will be very good at Woodstock tomorrow afternoon. Excellent wind direction and very good lapse-rate predictions along the entire ridge complex. If the AM casts hold, I'll be at launch by 11.

Re: Woodstock tomorrow, June 15th
Here are ten ordered images to go along with Walt’s and Dave’s reports. Dave, thanks for coming out to help us into the air! As Walt mentioned, it was a good day with all of us climbing in multiple thermals found near launch. I believe that all who launched during the mid-afternoon spent some time a...

Re: Woodstock Friday April 16th
I'm going to pass on tomorrow. The predicted gusts (23mph for most of the afternoon) coupled with a predicted left cross at launch (280 to 290 degrees) bring launch conditions beyond my comfort level.
