Re: Woodstock 9-6 Labor Day !!
Today at Woodstock I had my first blown launch. Angle of attack too low, weak run, glider got in front of me and I just couldn’t catch up. Minor sail tear and dented down tube. I’m bruised and some minor abrasions and cuts. More details to follow. Really sore now. Can’t wait for the real pain tomorr...

Re: July 4th weekend
I had a nice flight. First flight in almost two years. Met Gary and Tom at the LZ around 12:30. Mark Cavanaugh brought his car down and we all rode up to launch. I only wanted to fly for 1-2 hours so I was in no hurry. Didn’t launch til after 4. Had an OK launch. Lift was everywhere. I just stayed b...

I neglected to mention the most important part, it has my custom front and rear HG racks. Gives your wing four wide foam supports.

Walt—thank you for posting the report. Glad you were not hurt more seriously. I did not witness the event but this is a reminder that we all need to mind our approaches. If it is a huge LZ no need to be super low turning final.

By ‘row pilot’ I meant that Mark only flew the tow parks and didn’t foot launch. Sorry for the confusion. And yeah, it sucks to work 35+ years, then die right after retiring.

Mark Vivell passed away on June 15. Mark was a tow pilot who flew Blue Sky. I worked with Mark at Northrop Grumman. He retired this year and was starting to enjoy life, getting back into bicycling and kayaking. Mark was a friend and good guy. I'll miss him.

Re: Sun01Mar options : Training Hill yet again?
I spent the day making two trips to Harrisonburg and back up 81. Winds were gusty all day. Not fun driving truck and 9,000 lb trailer. I don’t think you missed anything....beyond freezing bodily parts off.

Re: Pulpit a little windy last night
I was out at my property yesterday, about 30 miles south of the Pulpit. It was honking. Back again today and it is calm and quiet. No fun working in the woods...having to keep a constant eye for widowmakers.

I am at my property, about 20 miles South of the Pulpit. It is overcast and ugly. Had some sprinkles in the past hour. Doesn’t look encouraging. I am just doing my ‘site maintenance ‘.

I could make it out if the forecast looks good. I have a ton of home projects that have to be done so I won’t come out for an iffy forecast. I’ll look in the morning.

Re: Pulpit Saturday Sept. 7th
Turned out to be a good day at the Pulpit. Bacil was there and set up when I arrived a little after 11. Knut showed up shortly after. I set up and checked out the ramp. Looked cross from the North, but the cloud tracks were not showing much cross. I was the first off around 1:30. Got a good cycle an...

Earlier today the forecast was looking a little strong for the Pulpit, but the latest forecast is looking better, in the 9-10 range at 12-1pm. I will be going to the Pulpit tomorrow. I think it will be a good day. Going to try to get a driver.

Friday Aug. 30 flying
Friday is looking like it might be a Pulpit day. As of Wednesday, forecast is for west at 10ish. If the forecast holds I will take off work and go flying. I will make the call Thursday night or possibly Friday morning. Can anyone else play hooky?
